I knew that he came with a world with magic, and I took for granted that he had any idea about the idea of multiple worlds and dimensions. I think some of it was denial, but I gave him a rude awakening that I hadn't intended to. If anything it proved to me that I need to get out of my own space more. I don't get outside of mage society much.
I've got him talking, sharing information about our respective homes and trying to find some common ground. He really just seems to need to be heard. Understood.

it's amazing how often people who do terrible things do them for the basic reason of being neglected, not paid enough attention to, misunderstood, that sort of thing.

The fact that I'm on this ship at all is me being out of my comfort zone. You've probably figured out that talking with people isn't exactly my strong suit.
I do as well. It's a more common feeling here especially on the inmates' parts, since so many of them seem to be here against their wills.

the trick is to suss out what's the damaging sort of wanting attention, what's just their egos talking, and what's actually affirmation that they need.
Inmates, yes, but people who never got to plead their case, to defend themselves. Just showing up here out of nowhere. I'd be acting out too if I were in their position.
Hopefully I can figure that out, at least in Volk's case. I'm no therapist, but I can at least hear him out.
